The charming South Cornwall Coast

  • Charming Fishing Villages
  • Historic Harbour used in movies and TV shows worldwide
  • Ancient Castles and fantastic Gardens

More than any other of our tours, this South Cornwall route provides a whole host of options to choose from. The fishing village of Polperro has seemingly been untouched for centuries and a walk around its winding streets is a delight. The old harbour of Charlestown is another must see...dating from 1799, it has changed little since. A prime location in the Poldark TV series, its tall ships are spectacular. Then there is an amazing choice ..Gardens like The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Caerhays Gardens and Castle are truly spectacular in early summer with Magnolias in full bloom. The Eden project is another option, or one of The most iconic country Homes..Lanhydrock. Food and drink can also feature heavily on this tour...Fowey Valley Cider is a treat, and you can even make your own gin here! (The Cider co is often paired with a visit to nearby Restormel Castle) Colwith farm award winning Vodka distillery, Knightor Winery and the gorgeous riverside town of Fowey, for many years home to author Daphne Du Maurier are all possibilities, as is rugged Bodmin Moor. You are truly spoiled for choice!

  • 12:00 Restormel Castle and Fowey Valley Cider

Restormel Castle was built in the late 1200’s and the ruins stand in lovely countryside ,with great views of the valley from the ramparts. You can just imagine the banquets and revelry that went on here during its opulent past , before being destroyed in the English Civil war.

Nearby Fowey Valley Cider was founded by Barrie Gibson , after he came to Cornwall to retire!   The craft Cider maker and distillery offers free tours of its production facility and free tastings of its superb ciders, apple juices and gin.  You can even make your own gin here! It also supplies fantastic Olive Oil from a family Olive Grove in Italy.

  • 13:30: Charlestown

Charlestown harbour dating from 1799  was used extensively in Poldark, and other movies like The Eagle has Landed. Unchanged for Centuries this is a good place for lunch.

  • 15:00 Caerhays Gardens and Castle

Owned by the  Trevanion Family and then the Williams Family since 1370, the  current castle is relatively new, dating from 1810 and is still the family home. The gardens are magnificent, particularly in April and May with the Magnolias and Camellias giving a riot of Colour!
