Cornish mines once supplied the majority of the worlds tin and copper, and the Cornish miners and mine engineers changed the world. We will bring alive the stories of these incredible pioneers. Their legacy as seen today, including iconic engine houses perched on rugged cliffs, provides the backdrop to this fantastic tour. We will visit spectacular locations like the Crown Mines at Botallack and hear the stories of the miners and their lives, and also have a chance to have a private tour with a former miner at of one of the last mines to close, Geevor, which stopped production in 1998.

The remains of some of the iconic mining engine houses, many precariously perched on the cliffs, are pure Cornwall at its best, just meters above the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean. At Botallack, the sense of history and atmosphere is so intense it can be tangibly felt. and you will meet first hand a former miner for your tour of Geevor, One of the last mines to close. This tour gives a unique insight into an area which was once the richest in the world, away from the usual crowded tourist destinations. Most of the tour takes place in areas designated as a UNESCO world heritage site-The Cornwall and West Devon Mining districts.
